Privacy Policy

Your privacy is extremely important to us and we have done our best to explain to you in simple terms how we treat the information and data you provide.

The purpose of OurVoice is to help communities reach decisions by discussing the challenges they face, and evaluating various proposals. As part of this, you may choose to make comments and suggestions that others can respond to and discuss further.

This information is visible to other platform users to enable discussions, however, we do not permit any party from exporting your comments or data on mass. We enable community leaders (elected representatives and candidates) to better understand the sentiment of the community.

As part of this, we may provide unidentified feedback from surveys or polls that cut the data by demographic profiling information. For example, to enable them to understand if men have a different viewpoint to women on a particular issue.

What this means, is that we will not provide them with exports of comments by individual members such as yourself because the purpose of OurVoice is to enable the whole community to have a say and for the aggregated view to influence elected officials and community leaders in how they represent the views of the community.

We do our utmost to safeguard your data and privacy. This starts with using Australia Post's DigitalID to verify your identity, ensuring we do not store, or even have access to your official documents in order to protect your privacy.

Data is hosted in Australia.

When handling personal information we will comply with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) contained in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (Privacy Act) and other applicable legislation (such as Australian State and Territory health privacy legislation), as well as the Spam Act 2003 (Cth) and the Do Not Call Register Act 2006 (Cth). Where applicable, we will also comply with data protection laws of other jurisdictions, such as the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

The APPs are legally binding principles that are designed to ensure that individuals' personal information is protected throughout the information lifecycle that is, from the time the information is collected through to its destruction. The APPs also give individuals the right to access their personal information and have it corrected if it is incorrect.

We take our obligations under the APPs, Australian State and Territory privacy legislation and other applicable data protection laws seriously.
